Northeast of Bucharest lies a row of lakes and the largest remaining forest in the vicinity of the city. Like an XXL urban form, 11 villages, stretching from Tunari to Fundeni, are situated along this series of ponds, which are well-known to fishermen. Găneasa is one such place. The sloped plot of the project descends towards the lake, with the forest providing a scenic backdrop across the water. The architecture is kept to a minimum, establishing a plateau designed for maximum flexibility. The orientation is dictated by the landscape: an open space facing the water and forest, and a functional strip offering a degree of opacity towards the entrance of the courtyard. Here, the slab touches the ground; from this point, it lifts away from the field, which is overtaken by vegetation. Standing on the covered terrace overlooking the lake, one gets the sensation of floating. The house is structured vertically from gravity to lightness: the concrete slab and foundations supporting nine blue metallic pillars which in turn support the wooden roof structure.
